It takes about 50 gallons of sap to make one gallon of maple syrup.
One large tree equals a day's worth of oxygen for four people.
A maple tree must be approximately 40 years old before it can be tapped.
Maple trees should be at least 10 inches in diameter for safe tapping and may have multiple taps, depending on tree size.
Maple season may last for 8 to 10 weeks, but during this period, the heavy sap may run only 10 to 20 days.
Sap is a colorless liquid taken directly from the maple tree. It's through the boiling process that flavor and color are acquired.
